Many insurance companies are dropping the coverage of GLP-1 drugs for weight loss use. They charge companies a "surcharge" if they wish to continue carrying the coverage. What are companies doing? Are you continuing to cover GLP-1 drugs for weight loss?

We are not including these drugs, because we are concerned about the need for long term usage. Our employee benefits programme includes extensive well being options and we are trying to provide healthy staff meals.

Our medical plan (self-insured) will continue to cover GLP-1s, but to manage costs, we are implementing a program offered by the PBM that will establish additional requirements for the drug to be covered. This will be accomplished through a prior authorization process where members will need to meet a BMI threshold as well as engage in a company sponsored weight loss program. In addition to managing costs, the program aligns with the broader objective of promoting the overall health and well-being of our associates.
